Digoin, daughter of the Loire and canals …
It is located on the edge of southern Burgundy, at the confluence of Arroux, Bourbince, Arconce Vouzance and the banks of the Loire, the last wild river in Europe. The Digoin Canal Bridge, one of the first major canal-bridges in France (1834), allows the Loire Canal to cross the Loire.
L’ObservaLoire gives the opportunity to observe the canal, the Loire, the canal bridge and the flora and fauna present. The valley is a migration route of prime interest for north-south and east-west migratory birds, and a paradise for fishing with 100 km of coastline at 6 km.
Surrounded by vast natural areas, Digoin invites you to discover the Burgundy heritage. To escape, navigate on the Canal du Center:

The greenway adjacent to the canal promises pleasant bike rides (balades à vélo).
Earthenware
For several centuries, the activity of the city took place around the port built on the Loire. From this port, the Mâconnais and Chalonnais wines as well as the Morvan woods and dressed stones were exported to the Loire Valley and Paris. After the construction of the canals in the 19th century, a new activity, ceramics, appears. Digoin is known for its old earthenware: the Sarreguemines earthenware (1876), sandstone and pottery (1875) and Allia factory (1927).
